TD 1: Covert Rifle
This class is an introduction to carrying and deploying a short barreled, folding stocked weapon concealed in a backpack or sling bag. It will focus on the use and selection of both firearms and carrying cases in environments where it is necessary to conceal the presence of the rifle.
Students will learn how to select a rifle and bag combination for their specific needs. They will learn and practice safe carry methods and ways to quickly access and use the rifle in emergency situations. The instructor will also discuss ways to avoid being shot by first responders or other CCW carriers in a “friendly fire” incident.

This is not a class for a beginning rifle shooter. Before registering for the course, you should understand basic rifle handling principles including: loading, unloading, malfunction clearance, and safe shooting practices.
Students will need to provide their own concealable rifle/braced pistol and a backpack or bag in which to carry it. The class will run three hours and will require students to bring 200 rounds of ammunition. Short-barreled rifles and braced pistols of any caliber (rifle, handgun, or rimfire) are acceptable. If the gun has a shoulder stock and fits into a backpack, you can use it in the class.

TD 2: Counter Terrorist Urban Carbine
This class is designed to build student proficiency with a carbine at defensive engagement distances (less than 100 meters). The focus of the class will be to build proficiency in the context of using the rifle in an urban environment against active killers or terrorists. The eight-hour class will cover:

– Zeroing
– Standard and non-standard responses
– Magazine changes
– Close range Holdovers and mechanical offset
– Malfunction clearances
– Techniques to optimize speed and precision
– Use of cover
– Position shooting out to 50 meters
– Multiple target engagements
– Avoiding “friendly fire”
– Target discrimination in a crowded environment
– Methods to minimize “pass through” rounds that may injure innocent bystanders

The class is suitable for any AR-15/AK-style rifles including “pistols” with braces. Open sights, red dot optics, and low-powered variable optics may be utilized. This class is beginner-friendly, but would not be ideal for the rank amateur. Knowledge of how your weapon functions and basic rifle shooting procedures is a pre-requisite. Students should be able to load/unload, safely handle, and fire their chosen rifle to register for the class. No formal training is necessary.

Students should bring the following:

– AR or AK pattern rifle, pistol with brace, or carbine. The rifle should be zeroed before class. I prefer a 50 or 100 meter zero, but alternate zeroes are acceptable if students know where their rounds will impact at closer ranges.
– At least three functional magazines. Magazine carriers are great, but pockets work fine as well
– Eye and Ear protection
– Clothing for the weather (outdoor range with minimal shade)
– Packed lunch and fluids for hydration
– 400 rounds of ammunition

Students in the class will fire approximately 400 rounds. I realize that in this time of ammunition shortage, that may be a burden for some. For those who do not want to fire 400 rounds, I will provide the option of dry-firing approximately half of the repetitions in the class. Students choosing the dry-firing option should bring at least 250 rounds. Rimfire AR-15 carbines are also acceptable in this class.

TD3: Recognizing, Detecting, and Neutralizing the Terrorist Bomber

If you research terrorist and active shooter events both domestically and worldwide you will quickly recognize a growing trend. Terrorists and Active Shooters are using bombs to increase their body counts.
Did you know that majority of terrorist events that have occurred in the United States have been bombings? Did you know that many of the more famous active shooter events also involved bombs? This trend is only likely to increase as terrorists implement the expertise and tactics they have learned on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan. In today’s ever-hostile environment, knowledge about explosive devices has become critical for both police officers and aware citizens.
In this 6-hour class you will learn about:
– Basic explosive characteristics
– Terrorist Bomb Designs
– Improvised Explosive Devices
– Response tactics for dealing with a suicide bomber
– A de-brief of recent terrorist bombing incidents
– Safe standoff and evacuation distances
– How active shooters add to their body count with bombs
– How to recognize precursor chemicals used to make homemade bombs
– How to avoid secondary devices
– Tactics of the Terrorist Bomber

The first part of the class will be in a lecture/discussion format. The class will end with several practical exercises allowing students to search structures and automobiles for simulated explosive devices
